Best Cherry Crumble

This cherry crumble is fruity, buttery, and perfectly crisp. Juicy cherries are baked under a golden, buttery crumble topping infused with vanilla, almond, and a hint of orange zest. A cozy dessert best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients
  

Cherry Filling:
  • 6 –7 cups cherries pitted
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 –4 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp almond extract
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp orange zest
  • 1 tbsp orange juice
Crumble Topping:
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp almond extract
  • 1⅓ cups all-purpose flour
  • tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 8 tbsp unsalted butter cold and cubed

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9–10 inch deep-dish pie plate or 8x11 inch pan.
  2. Mix cherries with flour, sugar, extracts, zest, and juice. Spread in dish.
  3. In a bowl, mix sugars and zest. Stir in extracts, flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Cut in butter until crumbly.
  5. Sprinkle topping over cherries. Bake 45–50 minutes until golden and bubbling.
  6. Cool 15–20 minutes before serving.
