Chicken Cabbage Stir-Fry

This easy chicken cabbage stir-fry is packed with protein, vibrant vegetables, and bold umami flavors. Marinated chicken is quickly stir-fried with cabbage, onions, carrots, and peppers in a light soy-oyster sauce. It’s ready in under 30 minutes and perfect for weeknight dinners or meal prep.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 medium onion sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pound chicken breast diced
  • 2 cups cabbage chopped
  • 1 bell pepper sliced (any color)
  • 1 carrot julienned
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce optional
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes optional
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water optional
  • Green onions for garnish

Method
 

  1. Marinate the chicken with 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp sesame oil, and a pinch of pepper.
  2. Let sit for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Mix remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and cornstarch slurry in a bowl. Set aside.
  4. Heat butter in a skillet or wok.
  5. Cook the chicken for 4–5 minutes until golden and cooked through.
  6. Remove from pan.

Notes

  • Swap the chicken for tofu or shrimp for a variation.
  • Use napa cabbage or savoy cabbage if desired.
  • The cornstarch slurry helps thicken the sauce but is optional for a lighter dish.
