Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Dutch process cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 3 large ripe bananas about 1 1/2 cups mashed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/4 cup vegetable or coconut oil
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips divided

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Whisk together flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Mash bananas in a large bowl.
  4. Stir in melted butter, oil, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla.
  5. Gently fold in dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Stir in half the chocolate chips.
  7. Pour batter into the pan. Sprinkle with remaining chocolate chips.

Notes

  • Make sure your bananas are very ripe—lots of brown spots means sweeter flavor and better texture.
  • Dutch process cocoa gives this loaf a deep chocolate flavor, but natural cocoa works in a pinch.
  • For an extra-rich version, use chocolate chunks instead of chips.
