- Cook pasta in salted water until al dente.
- Reserve ¼ cup water, drain, and set aside.
- Heat oil in a skillet. Cook sausage until browned. Remove to a plate.
- Add onion; cook 5 minutes.
- Stir in garlic and tomato paste; cook 1–2 minutes.
- Deglaze with broth.

Notes
- You can use spicy Italian sausage if you like a kick.
- Swap penne or fusilli for any short pasta you have on hand.
- To lighten things up, use half-and-half instead of cream.
