Fluffy Vanilla Frosting

Vanilla frosting is a classic American buttercream made with softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a splash of milk or cream. Light, fluffy, and easy to customize, it’s the perfect topping for all your favorite baked goods.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • –4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 –3 tablespoons milk or cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. In a large bowl, beat butter for 2–3 minutes until pale and creamy.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing slowly at first, then increasing speed.
  3. Add vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of milk. Beat until light and fluffy.
  4. Adjust consistency by adding more sugar (for stiffness) or milk (for smoothness).
  5. Use immediately or store in fridge. Rewhip before using if chilled.

Notes

  • Always soften the butter fully for the fluffiest texture.
  • Heavy cream makes it richer, but milk works just fine too.
  • Add a pinch of salt if you prefer your frosting less sweet.
