French Breakfast Muffins

French breakfast muffins are soft, lightly spiced muffins coated in melted butter and cinnamon sugar. With a fluffy texture and golden crust, they’re perfect for mornings when you want something sweet, cozy, and quick to make.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Topping:
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • cup granulated sugar
  • tsp ground cinnamon

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease or line muffin tin.
  2. Whisk dry ingredients in one bowl.
  3. In another bowl, mix sugar, butter, egg, buttermilk, and vanilla.
  4. Stir in dry mix until just combined. Don’t overmix.
  5. Divide batter into muffin cups. Bake 20–22 mins.
  6. Cool slightly. Dip tops in melted butter, then cinnamon sugar. Serve warm.

Notes

• Nutmeg adds classic warmth—don’t skip it.
• If you don’t have buttermilk, add 1 tbsp lemon juice to milk and let sit 5 minutes.
