Ground Turkey Sloppy Joes

Made with lean ground turkey, sweet peppers, onions, and a punchy homemade sauce, these sloppy joes are a lighter but just-as-delicious version of the traditional beef favorite. Great for busy nights or easy meal prep!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • cup green bell pepper seeded and diced
  • ½ cup yellow onion diced
  • 1 tsp garlic minced
  • Hamburger buns for serving
Sauce
  • 8 oz tomato sauce
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • tbsp yellow mustard
  • ¼ tsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp paprika

Method
 

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground turkey until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  2. Add diced onions and green peppers; cook until softened, about 4-5 minutes.
  3. Drain excess grease.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard.
  5. Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, pepper, salt, onion powder, and paprika.
  6. Simmer uncovered for 6-8 minutes until sauce thickens.
