Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup jasmine rice
  • 1 large yellow onion thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cups water or broth
  • ½ teaspoon salt plus more to taste

Method
 

  1. Rinse jasmine rice under cold water until water runs clear.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  3. Add sliced onion and a pinch of salt. Cook 12–15 minutes until golden.
  4. Stir in rinsed rice. Toast for 2–3 minutes.
  5. Add water (or broth) and additional salt. Bring to a boil.
  6. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 15 minutes.
