Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil or ghee/avocado oil
  • 1 –2 tablespoons garlic minced
  • ¼ cup yellow onion diced
  • ¼ cup red onion diced
  • ½ –1 green bell pepper diced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon coconut sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce omit for gluten-free
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
Toppings:
  • Hamburger buns gluten-free if desired
  • Cheese slices regular or dairy-free
  • Dijon mustard
  • Burger pickles
  • Quick pickled onions

Method
 

  1. Heat oil or ghee in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  3. Add diced onions and bell pepper; cook until softened.
  4. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess grease.
  5. Stir in mustard, ketchup, coconut sugar, soy sauce, salt, pepper, tomato paste, chili powder.
  6. Worcestershire sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Mix well.

Notes

• Use ground turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter or vegetarian version.
• Coconut sugar adds natural sweetness, but brown sugar works too.
