Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

This whipped vanilla buttercream frosting is silky-smooth, light in texture, and bursting with vanilla flavor. It’s easy to make, pipes beautifully, and pairs with just about any dessert.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons milk

Method
 

  1. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter for 3 to 4 minutes until very pale and creamy.
  2. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk.
  3. Mix on low until mostly incorporated, then beat on high for another 3 to 4 minutes until light and fluffy.
  4. Adjust consistency with additional milk or sugar as needed.
  5. Use immediately or store as directed.

Notes

  • For extra-white frosting, beat the butter for longer and use clear vanilla extract.
  • Use full-fat milk or heavy cream for richer results.
  • Sift powdered sugar beforehand if it’s clumpy.
