These vegan sloppy joes are made with plant-based ground beef, lentils, and a bold, tangy sauce that mimics the traditional version beautifully. Hearty, satisfying, and easy to make in under 30 minutes, they’re a flavorful twist on a comfort food classic.

Ingredients
  

  • 12 ounces vegan ground beef I used Beyond
  • 1 small onion diced small
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 15 oz can lentils drained and rinsed
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 15 oz canned tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon vegan Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 6 buns

Method
 

  1. In a large nonstick skillet, cook the vegan ground beef over medium-high heat until browned, breaking it up into chunks.
  2. Add diced onion and cook for about 5 minutes until translucent.
  3. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  4. Add lentils, chili powder, smoked paprika, tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard,
  5. Worcestershire sauce, and maple syrup.

Notes

• You can substitute lentils with black beans or chopped mushrooms for variety.
• Use gluten-free buns if needed.
